5 (Real) Beauty Products for Halloween Makeup

As soon as the leaves gets crispy and the air gets even crisper I have two things on my mind and two things only; boozy hot chocolates and Halloween. And while I may be chomping at the bit to spend money on Halloween makeup kits to achieve that perfect transformation I can’t bring myself to do it anymore because Halloween makeup is cheaply made and often times a one trick pony. These are my top 5 picks for beauty products perfect for helping you achieve that Halloween look without having to through the mayhem that is the seasonal aisle and products you can use after October 31.

1. Joico InstaTint

Perfect for a pop of colour without having to commit to the cost or maintenance of a salon, Joico InstaTint Temporary Color Shimmer Spray is ideal for the commitmentphobe. The best part is that it’ll wash out with your next shower and the tint can last up to three days. Colourful hair can add an extra pizzaz to your costume by using gem-tones like green, blue and purple all over for a mermaid mane. After halloween this spray can still be worn by sectioning off small portions of your hair and spray liberally for splices of colour.

2. Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

The unicorn trend is still as strong as ever and who doesn’t love shimmer? Kat Von D makes it easy with her transformative holographic shades. This multi use palette can be used on it’s own for super-shimmery highlighter or over your existing makeup to create a duo-chrome finish with a pearl flip. For all your halloween parties try layering over bare skin all over for a mega-watt prismatic highlighter sure to impress whether you’re a rare unicorn or an out-of-this-world alien. After the party it can still be used as an inner corner highlight or layered over eyeshadows for a multitude of options.

3. NYX V’Amped Up! Lip Top Coat

Dark lips reign supreme and Halloween is no exception. A lot of halloween looks are made with a swipe of dark lipstick, such as vampires or zombies, but what if you want multiple dark shades but don’t want to buy multiple products? Then look no further than NYX V’Amped Up! Lip Top Coat. This lip product has nourishing oils and looks like a giant black crayon and is meant to be worn over lip colours you already own to create a deeper hue. During and after halloween, vampy lips are always on trend in colder months!

4. Lime Crime Diamond Crusher

This iridescent lip topper takes your lips from wow to WOWZA. These amazing lip toppers from Lime Crime dry down to a perfect long-wearing finish with high sparkle. Wear on its own to add a dash of sparkle or layer over a bold lip to create a multidimensional intense finish. Because Lime Crime is a cosmetics company, not a Halloween cosmetics company, their glitter is more finely milled then their cheaper counterparts making it easy to wear for an entire night of trick o treating. There might not necessarily be a need to add some sparkle to your costume, but it never hurts now does it?

5. Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter

Go for the gold in this intensely pigmented drugstore highlighter that packs some major shimmer. The original shade is aptly named Molton Gold and is better than higher-end highlighters I have used in the past. Drenched in a true gold hue this highlighter is ideal for anyone looking to channel C-3PO or Cleopatra. Maybelline’s newest highlighter is best applied with your fingertips to ensure the most coverage to last all night whether you’re tricking or treating.
